AT&T announces the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active Rugged flagship Smartphone
AT&T has finally announced the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active smartphone which asides the Galaxy S6 Edge is the only variant of the flagship Samsung Galaxy S6. The flagship rugged smartphone is available via AT&T at the moment starting June 12 in Camo Blue, Camo White and Gray colour options.
Those interested in getting the device would have to shell out a premium price for the smartphone. It is available for $0 down on AT&T Next 24 for $23.17 with 30 device payments of $23.17, $28.96 with 24 device payments on Next 18 and $34.95 with 20 device payment on Next 12.
In terms of ruggedity the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is IP68 and Mil-STD-810G-certified. This means the device can spend up to 30 minutes in 1.5 metres of water and is dustproof. For the Military grade certification – the device is expected to withstand hard weather conditions such as extreme temperatures, high altitudes, thermal and Shock protection as well as others. The physical buttons on the screen are also operateable even with your gloves on.
Moving to the specs, the it is powered by the Benchmark topping Exynos 7420 chipset paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB space of internal storage. There is no microSD card slot for storage expansion and also there is no 64GB or 128GB variant of the device. It has the same 5.1-inch (2560 x 1440 pixels) QHD Super AMOLED display, 16MP rear camera, 5MP front camera and Android 5.0.2 Lollipop OS with TouchWiz UI.
Then there is also the Activity Zone which brings to life outdoor activities – such as compass, flashlight, stopwatch and more. There is no word on the dimension of the device so we can’t tell how much weight and size the device has put on with the added battery and rugged perks.
While it shares the same hardware specs with the Samsung Galaxy S6, the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is backed by a 3500mAh battery which is around 40% more than the Galaxy S6. The battery is not user-replaceable but has built-in wireless charging. The device is expected to charge up to 50% in 30 minutes with fast charging and will provide up to 24 hours of talktime on 10% charge when using the Ultra Power Saving mode.
