Chinese device maker, Cubot has announced a new entry-level smartphone with dual rear cameras – the Cubot Rainbow 2. This model succeeds last year’s rainbow, comes pre-installed with Android 7.0 Nougat OS and in a similar plastic body build in Black, Blue, Red, Gold and White colours.
One of the highlight of the Cubot Rainbow 2 is the dual camera setup – 13MP AF + 2MP cameras, for taking sharper photos, better colour reduction and well optimised pictures, especially the background blur to achieve a bokeh effect. The front 5MP snapper for selfies is aided by a soft LED flash.
Sporting a 5-inch IPS display with GFF lamination on a 7.9 mm thick body, the device has a 1280 x 720 pixels (HD) screen resolution, peak brightness of 450 cd/sq.m, 1300:1 contrast ratio and 2.5D curved Glass layer. It has Dual Micro SIM slots and is backed by a 2350mAh Lithium battery.
On the inside, the Cubot Rainbow 2 is powered by a quad-core Mediatek MT6580A processor clocked at 1.3GHz with 1GB of RAM and 16GB built-in storage space, which is expandable up to 128GB/256GB via microSD card slot. It supports 2G and 3G networks and has connectivity options such as Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, OTG, GPS/A-GPS and HOTKNOT
There is no word on pricing and availability yet, however it is expected to go on sale in markets the brand has presence in such as China and Kenya for a price tag well below US$100.
