Official: Meitu M8 Hello Kitty & Sailor Moon Limited Editions
The Meitu M8 is the latest addition to the Meitu’s series of selfie smartphones. The successor to this year’s Meitu T8, which features the brand’s signature hexagonal design and large camera lens, features a mix of powerful hardware and cutting-edge Artificial Intelligence technology.
As expected, cameras on the Meitu M8 have AI-based features and capture images in details, even in low light and unfavourable light conditions. The selfie camera is a 12MP Dual-Pixel Sony IMX362 sensor with PDAF, Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Meitu’s exclusive fourth-generation dual-image engine.
The rear camera is a 21MP IMX230 sensor with Dual LED flash (one on each side). The M8 is dubbed the most “intelligent” smartphone from Meitu, owing to the fact that the device uses algorithms to detect and enhances faces based on age, gender and facial features like skin tone and hair color. There is also a Snapchat-like feature that detects and enhances backgrounds.
The Meitu M8 features a 5.2-inch FHD display, sextuple-curved 3D glass surface, Mediatek Helio X20 processor, 4GB of RAM, 64GB built-in storage, Hi-Fi audio chip, USB Type-C port, and a 3,000mAh battery with 9V/2A fast charge support. It boots MEIOS 3.6 based on Android Marshmallow OS.
In addition to bringing Chinese-born actress and model Angelababy to the launch, the M8 is available in four colour options – Cherry Blossom Pink, Dazzling Purple, Moonlight White and Phantom Red. The Chinese company is also offering the Hello Kitty and Sailor Moon special editions.
Both special editions will have exclusive body design, special UIs, gift boxes and collection certificates, however, only 10,000 units of the Meitu M8 Sailor Moon limited edition will be available and it will arrive with exclusive accessories including a unique moon wand selfie stick.
The standard Meitu M8 and Hello Kitty Special Edition smarthones are available in China Meitu’s official website for CNY 2599 (US$ 376) and CNY 2799 (US$ 405) respectively. The Sailor Moon Limited Edition costs CNY 2999 (US$ 434). They are expected to lauch by mid-june in Hong Kong.
