Samsung Pay Mini For Android Debuts in South Korea
Samsung Electronics has announced the Samsung Pay Mini for Android, an online-based mobile payment solution for devices running Android OS. The service, which was expected to debut alongside the flagship Galaxy S8, will be launched within this quarter (Q1 2017) and available in South Korea at first.
Samsung’s Pay Mini is a lite version of the main Samsung Pay, which is competing against the likes of Apple Pay and Android Pay. The new app works with MST i.e it is capable of processing only online payments (no support for offline payments) and this time, it is not restricted to Galaxy devices alone.
Samsung Pay Mini app is compatible with devices with at least 1280 x 720 (HD) display and boots Android 5.0 Lollipop OS (or up). Users will access services such as memberships, lifestyle and transportation. Some of the online have rewards programs which will give extra benefits based on a point system.
While the exact launch date has not been revealed, pre-launch trial for Samsung Pay Mini will commence starting February 6. During this period, South Koreans will be able to download the demo version of the app. The company also confirmed that it is already looking to roll-out the service to other regions but no timeframe has been finalised yet.
