TCL (Alcatel) resurrects Palm brand, unveils new Alcatel pop 2 phones and pop 10 tablet
TCL (Alcatel) has used the CES 2015 in Las Vegas to announce new affordable Pop 2 LTE phones, a Pop 10 tablet and one major interesting news – it has acquired the Palm brand name from HP.
TCL confirmed the purchase of Palm Inc in a press release, here is an excerpt from the release;
… is very proud to announce that it will create a new Palm Inc., a US-based company that will take ownership of the Palm brand. New Palm Inc. will remain a truly Californian, Silicon Valley, based company leveraging on the talents and partnerships of the area.
Palm has always carried a lot of affect and emotions. That’s why TCL has set the direction to rebuild the brand involving Palm’s very own community, making it the largest scale crowd-sourced project ever seen in the ind.
TCL emphasises that it would announce the timeline of the roll-out of the ‘Palm project’ in coming days. TCL is the brand behind ‘TCL’ and ‘Alcatel OneTouch’ brand and would use its position as the 5th world’s largest smartphone vendor to position Palm back on the technology map.
We don’t know what exactly to expect from TCL and the new Palm Inc but so far they have managed to stir up the curiosity amongst the tech community.
