After months of exclusivity to the Google Pixel Smartphones, Google Assistant is now available on smartphones running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Android 7.0 Nougat OS like the Nexus Smartphones. The announcement, which was made last week at the MWC 2017, confirmed the LG G6 as the first smartphone to have this feature. More smartphone makers are expected to include the feature out-of-the-box in the future.
Initially, Google Assistant was only available on Pixel, Google Home, Google Allo and Android Wear; however this has changed as all eligible Android Phones with Marshmallow and Nougat OS with Google Play services will automatically get the update.
The Google Assistant update will automatically rollout to English Language users in the US, followed by those in Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom. German users will also get the update in their language. The search giant promises more languages will be added over the coming year.

PS: Similarly to Apple’s Siri, Google Assistant is not an app to download as it is part of the operating system. The feature is rolling on region by region basis and the smartphone must be at least a 720p HD screen resolution and 1.5GB of RAM.
