So many modular devices have been promised but so far we haven’t seen much and the much more popular Project Ara by Google has also been pushed to 2016. XPX Group (or just XPX) has announced what could be the first modular tablet ever – the XPX Life 7.
The tablet follows the normal modular concept of being able to swap components and improve them. The screen, modem, camera and battery can be swapped out and replaced with better or newer ones; the 3G module can be replaced to accommodate 4G or even 5G when it is available and also the main camera supports up to 13 Megapixels camera.
Moving to the full specs, the XPX Life 7 Modular tablet has a 7-inch (1024 x 600 pixels) WSVGA IPS display, powered by a quad-core Cortex A7 processor clocked at 1.5GHz with 1GB of RAM and 8GB space of internal storage. It measures 195 x 109 x 12.3mm, comes with 3G, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth connectivity support.
The tablet is not a stunner by any standard but it can hold down the entry-level scene and stand out because of its modular build. It has a front facing 0.3 Megapixels camera, a rear facing 2 Megapixels camera and is backed by a removable 2100mAh battery. The now dated Android 4.4 Kitkat OS is the operating system.
The XPX Life 7 is priced at $279 and is expected to be targeted at the Latin American markets. It also comes with a 2-year warranty.
