Samsung took off the wraps off the long rumoured Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 tablet on July 20; the slate comes in two variants – the 8-inch model called the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 and the bigger 9-inch model called the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is the lightest and thinnest tablet ever from the company at 5.6mm and 265 grams (8-inch)/389 grams (9.7-inch). Asides the screen size factor; the tablet is also available in different connectivity and internal storage options – Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi & LTE and also either 32GB or 64GB space of internal storage with both supporting a microSD card slot (up to 128GB).
Samsung decided to go with a 4:3 aspect ratio for the display, a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels and the device keeps the same premium metal design as the Galaxy A series of devices from the company. Like it’s predecessor, it has the fingerprint sensor placed on the home button which is said to work with a touch instead of a swipe.
Other pertinent spec details includes – 3GB of RAM, Android 5.0 Lollipop OS with latest TouchWiz UI, Samsung Exynos 5433, 100 GB of free OneDrive cloud storage for two years, 2.1MP front facing camera, rear facing 8MP camera, Bluetooth 4.1, GPS/GLONASS, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, micro USB v2.0, and LTE connectivity where applicable.
The 8.0-inch model is backed by a bigger 4000mAh battery while the 9.7-inch model has to make do with a 5870mAh battery. There is no word on pricing yet but the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is expected to sell starting next month.
