Samsung Announces 8.4″and 10.5″ Galaxy Tab S With Super AMOLED Display, Multi-User Fingerprint Sensor

Samsung has announced a new addition to the Galaxy Tab tablets – its new flagship tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S at the ‘Tab Into Colour’ Galaxy Premiere 2014 event in New York at the Madison Square Garden theatre. The korean giants introduced the 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch Galaxy Tab S tablets, both slates feature Super AMOLED screens of WQHD resolution (2560 x 1600 pixels) resulting in impressively high pixel density. For the 10.5″ Galaxy Tab S 10.5 – 288 ppi and the 8.4″ Galaxy Tab S 8.4 – 359 ppi.

Also, Both the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and Galaxy Tab S 10.5 are the first tablet in the world to feature Super AMOLED displays which according to Samsung, allows it offer wider colour range, deep contrast, adaptive display and better outdoor visibility.

The Galaxy Tab S Duo would be availabe in two variants – the Galaxy Tab S. 8.4 (Wi-Fi & LTE) and Galaxy Tab S 10.5 (Wi-Fi & LTE).

Both slates are thin and lightweight, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.5 weighs 465 grams for the Wi-Fi version & 467 grams for the LTE version and also the Galaxy Tab 8.4 weighs 294 grams for the Wi-Fi version & 298 grams for the LTE version. The Galaxy Tab S duo measures just 6.6mm in thickness.

Both slates come configured with 3GB of RAM but the tablets are offered in two chipset varieties; the Wi-Fi version offers Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa chipset with a quad 1.3GHz Cortex-A7 and quad 1.9GHz Cortex-A15 while the LTE variants pack a Snapdragon 800 chipset with a 2.3GHz quad-core Krait 400 CPU.

Both the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and the Galaxy Tab S 10.5 sports 8MP rear camera with LED flashes, capable of 1080p video and 2.1MP front facing camera. In terms of storage, both slates come in 16GB and 32GB variants expandable up to 128GB via microSD card support.

Both slates would run on Android 4.4 Kitkat with TouchWIZ layer on top. Connectivity options includes Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, GPS, GLONASS, 4G LTE, 3G. Battery capacity on the 8.4″ features a 4900mAh Li-ion battery while the 10.5″ features a 7900mAh Li-Ion battery.

Asides the brilliant hardware, the software ability of the Galaxy Tab S is also top-notch. The tablet offers Samsung MILK music streaming (available in the US only), WatchON, Kids Mode, Multi Window, Private Mode. Accessories for the device includes a Bluetooth keyboard, Simple cover and book cover which Samsung assures does not add bulkiness to the tablets. The Galaxy Tab S also features a number of sensors – it has a fingerprint scanner in the home button, an IR blaster on the side and similar plastic back with faux leather look.

Pricing And Availability
Launch, pricing and availability details of the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and Galaxy Tab S 10.5 was not announced. However Pre-order for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S is ongoing in the US but the actual shipment starts by July. Prices starts at $399 for the 8.4-inch variant and the $499 for the 10.5-inch variants and they would be available in White and bronze colour variant only.
