Beats Electronics Launches Powerbeats2, Its First Wireless Earphones

Popular headphones and fashionable audio accessories company, Beat Electronics the maker of trademark headphones – BeatByDre has launched its first ever wireless set of headphones the Powerbeats2 wireless. The Powerbeats2 Wireless was inspired and co-designed by US Basketball star, LeBron James and described as sweat resistant, durable and lightweight.

The Powerbeats2 Wireless is a set of earbuds with flexible earhooks for a comfortable and secure fit. The earbuds are joined by a wraparound cable with an inline remote and mic for making handsfree calls, changing the volume and skipping tracks. The Powerbeats2 use a Bluetooth 4.0 connection to play music from a smartphone or tablet up to 9 metres away.

Each earbud has dual drivers and lets in ambient sound for safety while exercising. The rechargeable battery on the Beats Powerbeats2 Wireless earphones offers up to six hours of playback time, and can be charged for up to one hour of playback time in only 15 minutes.

The Powerbeats2 wireless headphones is expected to be available in three colour variants – White, Red and Black at a price of $199.95 (around N33,000 in Naira).

Apple recently announced plans to Beats Electronics and Beats Music subscription Streaming music service for $3 Billion and the move sees both founders Dr Dre and Jimmy Iovine join Apple as employees. There has however been no rapid or major change in terms of development project design or line up but it is looking likely that Beats would need to switch to Lighting as Apple has announced it as its headphone connection standard for iPhones and iPads.

With Apple switching to Lightning as its headphone connection standard, it would allow iPhones and iPads to power headphone amps, active noise-cancellation, and other features that would normally require a standalone battery.
