Cherry Mobile One launched in Myanmar as part of the Google Android One Initiative

Google has launched the Android One Initiative in Myanmar; the country would be the Eight overall to get the Initiative with the likes of India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Turkey.

With the aim to put high-quality, up-to-date devices into the hands of as many people as possible; Google has teamed up with Cherry Mobile to launch the Cherry Mobile One smartphone in Myanmar. The device would go on sale in the country for MMK 109,900 ($99) starting June 26th.

“We hope the arrival of Android One helps put great smartphones into the hands of more people across Myanmar, and we look forward to working with our partners to launch more devices in more countries over the coming months,”

Said Caesar Sengupta, VP, Product Management at Google. 

The Cherry Mobile One runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS and is expected to get the Android M when it goes official later this year. Lest not forget the device would get its software updates directly from Google. 

Moving to the specs, it features a 4.5-inch (480 x 854 pixels) FWVGA display, powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz , 1GB of RAM and 8GB space of expandable internal storage. On the rear, there is a 5MP camera with Flash and a front facing 2MP camera for selfies. 

The rest of the Cherry Mobile One specs includes – a microSD card slot, Dual SIM functionality, 3G connectivity, and is backed by a 1700mAh battery.
