Buzzing Korean smartphone maker, Samsung has announced new affordable budget Galaxy smartphones with the Galaxy Core II, Galaxy Star 2, Galaxy Ace 4, and Galaxy Young 2. The South Korean giant however only announced the device without announcing any availability nor pricing details of the newly introduced smartphones.
Samsung Galaxy Core II, Galaxy Star 2, Galaxy Ace 4, and Galaxy Young 2
All the newly introduced budget Galaxy Smartphones run on Android 4.4.2 Kitkat with Samsung’s TouchWiz Essence UI on top. And while the Galaxy Core II, Galaxy Star 2 and the Galaxy Young 2 are dual sim enabled, the Galaxy Ace 4 is only single SIM enabled but will also come in two variants – 3G and LTE.
Samsung Galaxy Core II
The Samsung Galaxy Core II is a follow up to the Galaxy Core smartphone launched last year. The device features a 4.5-inch WVGA (480 x 800 pixels) resolution display, powered by a 1.2GHz Quad-core processor, 768MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, expandable up to 64GB via micro SD card support. On the rear is a 5MP camera with LED flash and a front facing VGA camera.
The Galaxy Core II is powered by a 2000mAh battery. And connectivity options include 3G, Dual-SIM, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/GLONASS, Micro USB 2.0. The smartphone measures 130.3 x 68 x 9.8mm, weighs 138 gram, has a leather back finish and would be available in Black & White colour variants.
Samsung Galaxy Star 2
The Samsung Galaxy Star 2 features a 3.5-inch HVGA (320 x 480 pixels) display, powered by a 1GHz Single-core Spreadtrum SC6815A, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage expandable up to 32GB via micro SD card support. On the rear is a 2MP fixed focus camera, no front camera and connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0, Dual-SIM and Wi-Fi.
The Galaxy Star 2 is powered by a 1300mAh battery, measures 109.8 x 59.9 x 11.8mm, weighs 107.6g, would be available in White & Iris Charcoal colour variants.
PS: The Galaxy Star 2 is not 3G enabled.
Samsung Galaxy Ace 4
Unlike the other released budget Galaxy smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy Ace 4 is not Dual-SIM compatible however it would be available in 3G and LTE network variants. And both variants come with slightly different specifications.
The Samsung Galaxy Ace 4 (LTE and 3G) features a 4.0 WVGA, 5MP rear camera and a front facing VGA camera for both variants, 4GB of storage (expandable up to 64GB), Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, A-GPS/GLONASS.
The Samsung Galaxy Ace 4 (3G) is powered by a 1GHZ dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM, and backed by a 1500mAh battery. The device also measures 121.4 x 62.9 x 10.8 mm and weighs 123.8g.
The Samsung Galaxy Ace 4 (LTE) is powered by a 1.2GHZ Dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and backed by a 1800mAh battery. The device also measures 121.4 x 62.9 x 11.0 mm and weighs 130.3g.
Both variants of the Galaxy Ace 4 would be made available in Iris Charcoal and White colour variants.
Samsung Galaxy Young 2
The Samsung Galaxy Young 2 features a 3.5-inch HVGA (320×480 pixels) TFT display, powered by a 1GHz single-core processor, 512MB of RAM, 4GB internal storage which expandable up to 32GB via microSD card support.
On the rear is a 3MP fixed-focus rear camera and connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi b/g/n, A-GPS, GLONASS, 3G and Micro-USB.
It measures 109.8×59.9×11.8mm, weighs 108 grams, powered by a 1300mAh battery and comes in two colour variants – Iris Charcoal and White.
There is no word on pricing and availability of the Samsung Galaxy Core II, Galaxy Star 2, Galaxy Ace 4 and Galaxy Young 2 but judging by the facts most affordable budget smartphones are targeted at emerging markets,it is likely it debuts in South-Korean market before it spread around other markets.
Pricing Updates
The Galaxy Young 2 is cheapest of announced budget galaxy devices at just €99 (around N22,000 in Naira), while the Galaxy Core II is priced at €179 (around N40,000 in Naira) and the Galaxy Ace 4, the most expensive of these at €219 (around N49,000 in Naira).
