Philips S396 goes official with 8MP front camera, 4G LTE and Android 5.1 Lollipop OS

Philips has officially released the Philips S396, a low-end selfie centric smartphone it teased back in July. The 5-inch sized device is said to be available in China and Russia but no word on pricing information.

Much of the focus of the device is the camera; the device sports a front 8MP camera with CMOS sensor, 84.7-degrees wide shooting angle and f/2.2 aperture; the rear camera is a 8MP snapper with AutoFocus, CMOS sensor and LED flash. 

The Philips S396 features a 5-inch On-Cell IPS display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels (HD), powered by a 64-bit quad-core Mediatek MT6753P processor clocked at 1.0GHz paired with Mali-T720 MP2 GPU, 1GB RAM and 8GB space of internal storage. 

Connectivity options on the device includes – USB OTG, World Mode 4G LTE connectivity (FDD and TDD), micro USB, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and GPS. Measuring 73 x 141.9 x 9.65 mm in dimensions, the Philips S396 weighs 151 grams, has a microSD card slot for storage expansion (up to 32GB) and supports Dual Micro SIM slots with Dual Standby.

Running Android 5.1 Lollipop OS out-of-the-box, the device is backed by a 2300mAh battery with Intelligent Power Saving mode using XPower patented Tech called PowerXtend Lucid to reduce CPU battery consumption by up to 30% when heavy tasks like gaming, GPS and Web surfing.
