Swipe Elite smartphone launched with Android-based Freedom OS and 2500mAh battery

Swipe Telecom has announced the Swipe Elite ahead of India’s Independence Day celebration on August 15th. The device would available online-only on Flipkart for a price tag of Rs 5999 ($92), the device won’t sell via any flash sale and sales would start on August 19th.

The Swipe Elite runs on a customised version of Android OS called Freedom OS. The new OS is a skinned version of Android 5.0 Lollipop OS is aimed to provide superior user experience with high level of customisation. 

Users would be able to enjoy features like: On-screen and off-screen Gesture support – by drawing the letter ‘C’ opens the camera app, by pinching-in the screen would open a pre-defined app.

The OS comes with a selection of built-in theme totalling up to 100 to choose from and Swipe Box offers up to 100GB of cloud storage by aggregating all of the user’s cloud accounts like Drop Box and Box into one. 

Others includes – Swipe Search an algorithm based search which helps users search locally on the device and on the internet; and with Swipe customise – users would be able to customise the UI to their unique taste. 

The Swipe Elite features a 5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD display, powered by a quad-core processor clocked at 1.3GHz paired with 2GB of RAM, 16GB space of internal storage and a microSD card slot for storage expansion (up to 32GB).

Others includes – USB OTG, FM Radio, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 13MP rear camera with LED flas, 3G connectivity, 8MP front camera and 2500mAh battery. It measures 142 x 70.8 x 8.05 mm and weighs 131.3 grams.

Swipe will be able to beat Xiaomi to their game with Elite as the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime which has 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM costs Rs 6999 ($107) while the Xiaomi Redmi 2 with 1GB RAM and 8GB ROM costs Rs 5999 ($92). Others includes the Lenovo A6000 Plus and the YU Yuphoria.

Speaking at the launch of the Swipe Elite, the Founder and CEO of Swipe Telecoms, Shripal Gandhi said;

“It’s only because of the online model that we can keep the price of the smartphone low. Given the specs and the UI features offered with the ELITE this will be a disruptive budget smartphone in India’s mobile space.”
