Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch to debut on September 3rd

Samsung teased the Gear S2 smartwatch yesterday at the Galaxy Unpacked event where it unveiled the Samsung Galaxy Note5 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ in New York. The smartwatch is expected to go official at the IFA 2015 event in Berlin by early September.

The Samsung Gear S2 will be the newest addition to the Gear series of wearable from the company. Internally codenamed Orbis, the round faced smartwatch which is running the in-house Tizen OS was initially tipped to be the Samsung Gear A but finally the company settled for Gear S2.

At the Tizen Developers Summit at the end of July, Samsung told the audience the watch would have a rotating bezel for navigating content similar to the digital crown concept of the Apple Watch. There are several reports that the Gear S2 will be available in three variants too (does this look familiar).

Overall, the Samsung Gear S2 is expected to have a display with a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels, powered by a dual-core Exynos 3472 chipset, with 4GB internal storage space, 768MB of RAM and would be backed by a 250mAh battery.

Only time will tell if the Samsung Gear S2 will be able to challenge the Apple Watch, as there are so much comparisons and scrutiny already. We will know more in about three weeks time at the IFA 2015.
