Qualcomm has announced the Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 – a pretty much slightly faster version of the Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 with integrated LTE and 64-bit capability. The new chipset is targeted at midrange devices like its predecessor.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 is an octa-core (8 cores) processor with four ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.7GHz and the remaining four Cortex A53 clocked lower at 1.2GHz; compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 which also has the first set of cores clocked at 1.7GHz and the remaining four clocked lower at 1.0Ghz.
The rest of the specs are pretty much the same – Adreno 405 GPU, Integrated X5 LTE Global Mode mode, up to 21MP camera support, Full 1080p Video support, Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 technology, LTE Broadcast and LTE multimode dual SIM, Integrated Qualcomm VIVE 802.11ac Wi-Fi with MU-MIMO and Bluetooth 4.0 solutions.
The China-Exclusive Huawei Maimang 4 smartphone is the first device to use the SoC; the device is the Chinese version of the Huawei G8 with premium metal body, 5.5-inch FHD display, 13MP rear camera, 5MP front camera, 3000mAh battery and either 2GB/16GB or 3GB/32GB RAM and ROM configurations.
The company has also announced the Snapdragon 212 – successor to the Snapdragon 210 and Snapdragon 412 – successor to the Snapdragon 410; both are quad-core processors. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 has seen increased clock speed from 1.1GHz to 1.3GHz and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 412 also saw an increase in clock speed from 1.2GHz to 1.4GHz.
