Huawei has announced the Huawei Mate S, the phablet sized smartphone is one of the first (if not the first) smartphone to use a force touch technology. The not-so Huawei Mate 7 successor has a smaller 5.5-inch display and ushers in a new category of devices.
With an okay screen-to-body ratio, the Huawei Mate S has a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, 2.5D Curved glass and Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection. It is powered by an octa-core Kirin 935 Processor with 3GB of RAM and runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS with the company’s Emotion UI 3.1 ontop.
Going back to the Force Touch technology, the Mate S is pressure-sensitive i.e it can translate a soft touch and a harder touch on the display into different functions. On the back, there is a 13MP camera with OIS, Dual Color LED flash and 4 color RGBW imagine sensor.
For selfies there front camera is a 8MP camera and the fingerprint sensor can be found below the main camera. The Huawei Mate S supports Dual SIM slots, 4G LTE connectivity, measures 149.8 x 75.3 x 7.2mm in dimensions, weighs 156 grams and is backed by a 2700mAh battery which is expected to provide more than a day of usage.
The device comes with three built-in microphones and two stereo speakers at the bottom. The Huawei Mate S is available in two versions – a standard Mate S with 3GB RAM and 32GB RAM goes for €649 in Titanium Grey or Mystique Champagne colours while the more premium models with 3GB RAM and 64GB goes for €699 in Coral Pink or Prestige Gold colours.
There is a 128GB Force Touch Version which would debut at a later date in select markets. The Mate S goes on pre-order from Huawei’s Vmall marketplace starting September 8 and would debut in over 30 countries around the world including China, France, Germany, Israel, Japan, Spain, South Africa and UAE.
