Xiaomi Gemini with Snapdragon 820 and Android 6.0 Surfaces on Benchmark

A lot has been said about the upcoming Xiaomi Mi5 (and Mi5 Plus) smartphones but none of these details the device has been officially confirmed. A new smartphone from Xiaomi believed to be the Mi5 has surfaced on Geekbench with the codename – Xiaomi Gemini.

The Xiaomi Gemini is powered by Qualcomm ARMv8 quad-core MSM8996 (the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820) processor clocked at 1.59GHz paired with 3GB of RAM (2771MB listed) and runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow. This mean the device will also have Adreno 530 GPU for graphics on-board.

The Xiaomi Gemini has an impressive single core score of 2140 and a multi core score of 4762 on the platform. While OnePlus 2 with Snapdragon 810 believes it is the 2016 flagship killer, it would have a hard time standing up to new devices released using the Snapdragon 820, Exynos 8 Octa and Kirin 950 which would all power high-end smartphones scheduled for 2016.

Initially, Xiaomi had plans to debut the Mi5 earlier this year with the Snapdragon 810 processor but had to push back the release date because of the persistent heating issues that plagued the chipset.

The Chinese company is expected to announce the device this month (November) and it could be available at any point in December. There is no official confirmation yet on any of the above.
