Despite the shrinking market share of the tablet market, companies are trying to push on by launching slates with more varied functions. An example is the Toshiba Regza 10WP1 which would be available in stores in Japan for JPY 45,000 (approx. USD 364 / EUR 350) starting November 27th.
The Toshiba Regza 10WP1 is a Portable TV and also double as a tablet; it has a waterproof body build (IPX5) certified and the touchscreen display can be operated with wet hands. It measures 262 x 186 x 78 mm with the stand (or 261x 184 x 75mm without the stand), weighs a hefty 1.2kg (for a 10-inch tablet) and has a battery life of 3 – 4 hours.
The slate can also work standalone as a bluetooth speaker playing music directly from external devices with or without the screen being on thanks to two impressive 40mm-sized 2W Stereo speakers on both sides (right and left). For the TV purpose, it has external antenna connection support and is packed with waterproof remote control and AC adapter.
Using a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels (HD), the Toshiba Regza 10WP1 sports a 10.1-inch display with wide viewing angles. Other included spec details are a Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, microSD card slot, DLNA, USB port and LAN Ethernet port.
