Les face it, Smarwatches and wearables are no longer a thing for the geeks, even the general public want a smartband or a smartwatch. Timex in collaboration with AT&T and Qualcomm has come up with a smartwatch targeted at fitness buffs. The Ironman One GPS+ is the first smartwatch from the watch manufacturer; It is a standalone watch as it does not need to pair a smartphone to deliver its function with 3G connectivity. Asides from not needing to be connected to a smartphone, it doesn’t let users take or make calls, but users can exchange emails with their friends.

The Timex Ironman One GPS+ features a 1.5-inch Touchscreen and four physical buttons. The device is powered by a Qualcomm chipset (Brew platform) and Mirasol screen technology. There is a 4GB of inbuilt Storage which save music but can only be played via a Bluetooth headset through the built-in MP3 player. Other features includes – water resistance up to 50 meters, location tracking, find me mode which allows send location details in cases of emergency, ability to track distance, pace and speed in real time. It also allows you share data through social media and other online fitness platforms.

 

AT&T users in Canada and US also get a year of data connectivity on purchasing the device. The Ironman One GPS+ comes with very few built-in apps and the smartwatch’s OS ecosystem is opened to developers to develop new apps for the watch. Exact battery size is not detailed but the device is expected to last 3 days of regular usage and a standby time of 8 hours with GPS turned on.

The Timex Ironman One GPS+ costs a massive $399.95, but the Timex Ironman One GPS+ with Heart Rate sensor and accessory chest strap costs $40 more at 439.95. The smartwatch is available only for pre-order in Green and Black colour variants; but the smartwatch won’t arrive until the falls.
