After earlier reports emerged, Samsung has confirmed plans to sell refurbished Galaxy Note 7 in select markets or place for use as rental phones where applicable. In the statement issued by the company, principles have been put in place to ensure the returned Samsung Galaxy Note 7 devices are recycled and processed in an environmentally-friendly manner.
Dependent on due consultation with relevant regulatory authorities and carriers as well as considering the amount of local demand, the Galaxy Note 7 will be offered as refurbished or rental phones. All these will be thought-through before markets (excluding the US) and release dates are announced.
Internal components such as semiconductors and camera modules from some of these devices will be detached and used as test samples for future production purposes. While leftover components metals such as copper, nickel, gold and silver will be handled by eco-friendly companies’ specialising in such processes.
In addition, Samsung also announced plans to join the EU’s R&D and test efforts to develop new eco-friendly processing methods.
