At yesterday’s Apple event in San Jose, the Cupertino giant also announced the Apple Watch Series 3 alongside the new iPhones (8, 8 Plus and X). The next generation Apple Watch adds cellular connectivity (LTE and UMTS) to make calls, send messages and more without being paired to an iPhone, and the eSIM onboard means it uses the same number as the iPhone.
The Apple Watch Series 3 is water resistant (up to 50 metres) and retains the same looks as the Series 2, however the Digital crown now bears a red accent to differetiaite the new from the old. It packs a more powerful dual core S3 processor and promises up to 18 hours of life.
The new watch models come pre-loaded with watchOS 4, which includes new watch faces, new health tracking functions, Siri recommendations, and more. With cellular connectivity, content can also be live streamed directly from Apple Music. The Heart Rate app has also been updated to deliver better insight.
Siri has gotten smarter and can communicate through the built-in speakers. The W2 wireless chip also promises 50% more efficient Bluetooth and 85% faster WiFi performance. The Watch Series 3 comes in various cases and bands options, and is available in GPS only and GPS plus Cellular models.
The Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS) starts at US$ 329 / GBP 329 while the Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) model starts at US$ 399 / GBP 399. Pre-orders start tomorrow (September 15) and sales commences on September 22nd. Blush Gold and Dark Gray are the available colour variants.
