Samsung has officially taken the wraps off the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2, successor to the Galaxy Tab Active tablet that was launched back in 2014. The new rugged slate is available in Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + 4G LTE models, and will go on sale later this month in select markets across the world.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 is IP68-certified (water and dust resistance) and MIL-STD-810 certified to withstand drops, vibration, temperatures and excessive pressure. It also comes with a 1.2m anti-shock inbox cover and both facial recognition and fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication.
The rugged slate, which now comes with a IP68-certified stylus (S Pen), sports a 8-inch (1280 x 800 pixels) WXGA TFT display, front 5MP selfie camera, rear 8MP AutoFocus camera with LED Flash and 4,450mAh battery (removable). The display also has a slightly better touch mode for wet and gloved hands.
Pre-loaded with Android 7.1 Nougat OS, the Galaxy Tab Active 2 relies on a 1.8GHz octa-core 7870 Exynos processor paired with 3GB of RAM and 16GB built-in storage (expandable up to 256GB via microSD). Connectivity and port options available include: USB 2.0 Type C, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, Dual Band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS / GLONASS and 4G LTE (optional).
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 2 measures 127.6 x 214.7 x 9.9 mm, weighs 415 grams (Wi-Fi) / 419 grams (LTE) and depends on a 4,450mAh battery (removable).
