Qualcomm has begun sampling of the World’s First Announced 2 Gbps LTE Modem – the Qualcomm Snapdragon X24 LTE modem. The new modem is the first-announced chip built on a leading edge 7nm FinFET process and world’s first commercially announced Cat. 20 LTE modem supporting up to 2 Gbps download speeds.
Succeeding last year’s X20 LTE modem, the Snapdragon X24 LTE modem is Qualcomm’s 8th-gen LTE multimode modem and 3rd-gen Gigabit LTE solution, featuring features designed to lay the foundation for commercial 5G networks and mobile devices expected to start launching in 2019.
The X24 LTE modem delivers 2x the speed of the Qualcomm’s first-gen Gigabit LTE modem and supports up to 7x carrier aggregation in the downlink, as well as 4×4 MIMO on up to five aggregated LTE carriers. In the uplink, it supports Category 20 upload speeds, 3×20 MHz CA and up to 256-QAM.
Expected by the end of 2018, devices equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon X24 LTE modem have access to all spectrum assets available from a mobile operator, whether in licensed spectrum, or with License Assisted Access (LAA). Also, OEMs can offer incredible mobile experiences such as immersive 360-degree video, connected cloud computing, rich entertainment and instant apps.
In conjunction with Ericsson, Telstra, and NETGEAR, the Qualcomm Snapdragon X24 LTE modem will be demoed at the 2018 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
