Microsoft has announced the second generation of its company-focused giant displays for conference rooms called the Surface Hub 2. While the original Surface Hub arrived in 55-inch and 84-inch displays, the Surface Hub 2 will arrive with a smaller 50.5-inch display with 4K+ resolution and a rotating mount.
For easy alignment with other Surface products, the bezels are now thinner and Microsoft has ditched the traditional 16:9 for the 3:2 aspect ratio. Furthermore, up to four Microsoft Surface Hub 2s can be aligned (Tiling feature) in either portrait or landscape view to arrive at a much a bigger screen.
The device still runs Windows 10 OS; however, the software has been improved to add features such as multi-user sign in using the built-in fingerprint reader. The device is optimised to harness the power of Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Whiteboard, Office 365, Windows 10 and the intelligent cloud.
The display also packs a 4K camera, integrated speakers and far field mic arrays. Microsoft has also partnered with workplace expert, Steelcase, to create rolling stands and easy-to-use mounts for the Surface Hub 2. It will be available to select commercial customers for testing in 2018 and will go on sale next year (2019).
