Fresh of the launch of the Redmi S2/Redmi Y2 smartphones in China and India respectively, Xiaomi recently added the Redmi 6 and Redmi 6A to its portfolio. The duo, successor to the Xiaomi Redmi 5, features a 5.45-inch HD+ 18:9 IPS display and come pre-loaded with MIUI 10.
The Xiaomi Redmi 6 is powered by Mediatek’s Helio P22 octa-core 12nm processor and backed by a lasting 3,000mAh battery. It is available in two memory configs: 3GB RAM with 32GB storage and 4GB RAM with 64GB storage. Both options have a microSD card slot for storage expansion.
In the camera aspect, the Redmi 6 has a 5MP (f/2.2) selfie camera with AI face recognition and 12MP (f/2.2, PDAF) + 5MP (f/2.2) dual camera setup with AI Beauty and AI Portraits with bokeh effect. It also offers AI face recognition and unlock in the front camera and rear fingerprint sensor.
The Xiaomi Redmi 6A has the same body as the standard model; however, it only packs 2GB of RAM, 16GB built-in storage, single 13MP rear camera and front 5MP camera. It is powered by Mediatek’s new Helio A22 12nm quad-core chipset and offers face recognition and unlock but no fingerprint sensor.
In terms of pricing, the Redmi 6 is priced at CNY 799 (USD 124) for the 3GB/32GB model and CNY 999 (USD 154) for the beefier 4GB/64GB model. The more affordable Redmi 6A is available for CNY 599 (USD 93). All models are already on sale in China starting June 15.
