Microsoft Announce Portable, Affordable Surface Go Tablet

Microsoft has added a new smaller, affordable product to its Surface tablet line called the Microsoft Surface Go. The new budget Windows tablet shares a similar design to the Surface Pro line but is geared to compete in the US education sector where Google’s Chromebooks and Apple’s cheaper iPads have found measurable success.

Priced starting at $399 (US) / £380 (UK), the Microsoft Surface Go has a 10-inch (1800 x 1200 pixels) HD Screen with 3:2 aspect ratio, the signature integrated kickstand, a front placed 5MP camera with Windows Hello facial recognition login and a rear 8MP AF camera.

It measures 8.3 mm thick, weighs about 522 grams and comes pre-loaded with Windows 10 S (upgradable to full Windows 10 OS). On the inside, the Go is powered by the lower-end 7th Gen Intel Pentium Gold Processor 4415Y CPU with either 4GB or 8GB RAM and 64GB eMMC/128GB SSD/256GB SSD storage options.

Microsoft is currently only offering the Wi-Fi option with the 4G LTE model expected to arrive later this year. The tablet also arrives with the USB-C 3.1 port, microSD card slot, a headphone jack and Microsoft’s Surface Connector port for charging and docking. It also includes support for the Surface Pen (sold for $99 / £99) and Surface Mobile Mouse (sold for $35).

Depending on the colour, the optional Surface Type Cover is available for $99 (Black) and $129 (Alcantara, Blue, Red or Silver). The Microsoft Surface Go will be available for preorder starting July 10th and shipment will start in August.
