Google has officially released the finished version of its new mobile operating system as Android 9 Pie. The latest release builds on last year’s version of the OS and promises a number of Artificial Intelligence assisted features to make the phone smarter, simpler and more tailored to the user.
Adaptive Battery and Adaptive Brightness are two of the features to look out for. Both learn from the user and adapts to usage patterns. The former prioritizes more battery usage for the user’s most used apps and the latter adjusts the brightness setting in different environmental settings.
App Actions helps gets things done by predicting what the user will do next based on context and display actions. Slices, which will roll out later this fall; shows relevant information from favourite apps whenever searches carried out.

Android 9 also brings a new System Navigation which makes switching between apps easier bu using gestures instead of buttons. In overview mode, Smart Text Selection suggets relevant actions based on selected text or images. Also, the Quick Setting menu has also been redesigned for easier usage.
With Digital Wellbeing, Android users now have a number of features to track usage and set time limits on tasks. The Dashboard shows the daily pattern of the device’s usage; the App Timer lets the user set time limits on apps and automatically pauses the app for the rest of the day, when the time limit is up.

The new Do Not Disturb option can now silence both notification sounds and visual interuptions while Wind Down prepared the device for bed by setting a Grayscale fade on the screen. There are also some improvements in privacy and security as well as in other aspects.
Android 9 Pie is already available via OTA to Google Pixel Phones. Participating devices from Essential, HMD Global, One Plus, OPPO, Sony and Vivo under the Beta Program as well as Android One devices will receive the update later this fall. Google is also working with other partners to provide the update to other smartphones this year.
