Samsung Galaxy Home Smart Speaker Powered By Bixby

Alongside the Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy Watch, Samsung briefly showed off the Samsung Galaxy Home at Unpacked event in New York. The high-end smart speaker is expected to directly rival the Apple’s HomePod while also competing against the Amazon’s Echo and Google’s Home Speakers.

Samsung Galaxy Home is the first Bixby-powered smart speaker. It has an odd-cylindrical shape with 3x stands, fabric body cover, flat top with control buttons, 6x built-in speakers and subwoofer for delivering surround sound audio and 8x far-field microphones for detecting voice input.

To activate the speaker to perform task such as playing music or answer questions, all the user needs to say is ‘Hi Bixby’. Samsung’s partnership with Spotify means the streaming service is the default service for playing music. Users will also be able to play music across Samsung TVs, phones and other devices.

The smart speaker will also have Samsung’s SmartThings hub built-in. This will allow it control lights, thermostats and other smart home gadgets that support the platform. The company did not disclose the release date for the Samsung Google Home but confirmed more details will be available at the Samsung Developer Conference in November.
