Samsung America recently unveiled the Samsung SmartThings Tracker – a new small, lightweight GPS-enabled tracker connected via an LTE-M network. This tracking device can be easily attached to valuables such as backpacks, set of keys, pet collars and more.
According to Samsung, the SmartThings Tracker makes it easier to locate a gym bag or backpack lost at school, a laptop case left in the airport lounge, or a pet that might have wandered too far from home. LTE-M is the option here because it provides a greater range of signal coverage over Bluetooth.
Items are tracked in real-time via Samsung’s SmartThings app (available for Android and iOS devices). Double tapping the tracker’s power button shares location updates with the app which then alerts other users with shared access. There are also live-tracking and SOS features.
The tracker is protected from dust, rain and spills (IP68-rated) for indoor and outdoor use, and lasts up to a week of battery life on a single charge. It also doubles as an arrival sensor for compatible SmartThings devices and geofencing alerts can be set to notify the user when the tracker enters or leave a zone.

The Samsung SmartThings Tracker is priced at $99 with AT&T subscription plan included in the first year and $5 per month or $50 per year for AT&T plan afterwards. It is currently available from AT&T stores and Samsung. It will arrive through Verizon later this year.
