Few weeks ago, a video of an unannounced smartphone from nubia with two displays (front and rear) surfaced online. The device, spotted under the moniker nubia NX616J has now been certified for release in China by TENAA and could end up going official as the Z18S, successor to the Z17S.
The nubia NX616J (Z18S) has a 6.26-inch (2280 x 1080 pixels) Full HD+ TFT LCD display and a rear 5.1-inch OLED display with HD+ (1520 x 720 pixels) resolution. It weighs 178 grams, measures 154.1 x 73.30 x 8.65 mm and power is supplied by a 3,800mAh battery.
Internally, it boots Android 8.1 Oreo OS with the brand’s nubia UI on top and relies on an octa-core SoC clocked at 2.649GHz (this would possibly be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset) paired with either 6GB or 8GB RAM and 64GB or 128GB built-in storage.
The listing suggests the smartphone will have a dual rear camera setup, which could end up being the same 16MP + 24MP rear sensors on the nubia Z18, and possibly no front camera. Unlike the Z18 which has the fingerprint sensor on the back, the NX616J (Z18S) has its sensor on the side.
Last year, the parent brand – ZTE, launched the Axon M foldable smartphone with two displays which can both be used when combined into one. There are also other smartphones with dual displays such as the Meizu Pro 7 Series, Hisense A2 and YotaPhone series.
