At 5.3mm, Kyocera KY-01L Is One Of The World’s Thinnest 4G Phone

Japanese major carrier, NTT DoCoMo has announced the launch of a new ultra-portable 4G feature phone called the Kyocera KY-01L (or Kyocera Card Keitai KY-01L).

At 5.3 mm thin, the company is positioning it as the world’s thinnest and lightest smartphone but companies like OPPO (OPPO R5 – 4.85 mm), Vivo (Vivo X5 Max – 4.75 mm) and Motorola (Moto Z – under 5.2 mm thick) will beg to differ.

The Kyocera KY-01L is about the size of a credit card and designed to fit into a card holder. It has a 2.8-inch e-ink display, IPX2 rating (survives splashes of water droplets per minutes splashed per 20cm distance), LTE connectivity (4G for phone calls and web browsing) and a built-in long lasting 380mAh battery.

Just like the newly released Palm Phone, the Kyocera KY-01L also act as a companion device for regular-sized smartphones. However, it does not have key smartphone functions such as a camera, an app store and voice assistant. The phone is scheduled to be released in November 2018 and will be available only in Japan. Pricing starts at JPY 32,000 yen (USD 285, EUR 247).
