Official: Honor Magic 2 with Slider design, Kirin 980, Triple Rear Cameras

Huawei’s sub-brand, Honor has officially announced the Honor Magic 2. The flagship is powered by the Kirin 980 7nm oca-core SoC with Dual NPU – same used in the Mate 20 series and like Xiaomi’s Mi MIX 3 and Lenovo’s Z5 Pro, it has a notch-free slider design with all-screen display.

The Honor Magic 2 packs a 6.39-inch (2340 x 1080 pixels) 19.5:9 FHD+ AMOLED display – same as the Mi MIX 3, IPX2 water-protection, Dual Nano SIM slots, In-display fingerprint sensor with a large 32.48mm coverage area, 3D Face Unlock and 3D Qmoji and a 3,500mAh battery with 40W SuperCharge that juice-up the phone from 0 to 50% 15 minutes and 0 to 85% in only 30 minutes.

The smartphone packs a total of six cameras – three on each side. The rear setup includes a 16MP (f/1.8) primary sensor, secondary 24MP (f/1.8) monochrome sensor and 16MP (f/2.2) sensor with super wide angle lens. All three are equipped with LED flash, AIS and AI intelligent stabilization.

The front camera setup packs a 16MP (f/2.0) sensor and 2MP + 2MP (f/2.4) sensors for 3D Face unlock. It comes pre-loaded with Android 9.0 Pie OS with EMUI 9.0 on top as well as Huawei’s YOYO assistant and the rest of the specs include: USB Type-C (GEN1), Dual 4G VoLTE, NFC, Bluetooth 5 LE and Huawei’s Hi1103 chip for 1.7Gbps Wi-Fi and dual-frequency GPS navigation.

Huawei also has plans to release a more premium ‘3D Light’ Edition with 8GB RAM + 512GB storage, 3D face scanning technology and graphene heat dissipation as Mate 20 Pro. It will arrive in December 2018 for a price tag starting at CNY 5,799 (US$ 830).

The Honor Magic 2 will arrive in three colour finishes: Gradient Black, Gradient Blue and Gradient Red. The base model with 6GB + 128GB is priced at CNY 3,799 (US$ 544); the 8GB + 128GB model for CNY 4,299 (US$ 616) and the high-end 8GB + 256GB for CNY 4,799 (US$ 688). It is up for pre-order starting today and sales commence on November 6th.
