Late last month, Tel Aviv-based mobile cybersecurity start-up, SIRIN LABS (the company behind the $14,000 Solaris) announced the commercial launch its much anticipated first blockchain smartphone – the FINNEY at an event in Barcelona, Spain. The smartphone is designed for those seeking the ultimate mobile security and comes pre-loaded with SIRIN OS.
Priced starting at $999, the 9.3 mm thick SIRIN FINNEY is named after computer scientist and Bitcoin pioneer Hal FINNEY. It offers a touch-enabled secondary screen at the rear which serve as a cold storage crypto wallet and pre-loaded apps and features such as an apps store for decentralised apps (dCENTER) and built-in cryptocurrency converter.
The cold storage wallet is located separately on a sliding ‘Safe Screen’ at the top of the phone. The private keys are isolated here for safe keeping and transactions can only be signed from the Safe Screen. Users can also create and store multiple crypto wallet on a single device.
It is manufactured by Foxconn International Holdings (FIH) and sports a notched 6-inch Full HD LCD display and Qualcomm Snapdragon Mobile Platform paired with 6GB of RAM. Others include 128GB built-in storage, 12MP + 8MP rear and front cameras, microSD card slot, dual speakers, IP54 rating and 3,280mAh battery.
Also at the launch, which was attended by SIRIN global ambassador and Football Superstar, Lionel Messi, the Israeli company announced plans to open two flagship concept stores in London and Tokyo. The London store will also serve as a blockchain academy.
SIRIN also expects other OEMS to come aboard the SIRIN OS train in the nearest future. The SIRIN FINNEY is on sale on the company’s website and will be available starting January via Amazon Launchpad.
