Ahead of Vivo’s APEX 2019 launch, Meizu announced its next high-end smartphone – the Meizu Zero with a rare unibody 3D design which is devoid of the usual physical buttons, wires and ports i.e volume buttons, audio jack, charging and SIM slots.

The Meizu Zero has virtual buttons on the side ‎to control volume and either turn the phone on or off. It can only be charged wireless via the bundled 18W charger and there is no room for speakers, hence, the phone uses Meizu’s “mSound 2.0” tech to emit sounds from the screen.

It also shuns the SIM card slot for embedded SIM card (eSIM) and has IP68 dust and water resistance – same as Apple’s iPhone XS and Samsung’s Galaxy S9. The phone has a 5.99-inch Full HD+ OLED display and both in-screen fingerprint scanner and selfie camera.

It is powered by 2018’s Snapdragon 845 mobile platform and boots Flyme 7 (based on Android). Photography is similar to the Meizu 16th i.e 12MP (f/1.8) + 20MP (f/2.6) dual rear cameras with 6-ring LED flash and a front facing 20MP f/2.0 camera with AI face unlock.‎

The Meizu Zero will arrive in Black and White colours and availability will be subject to regulatory approval due to the use of eSIM. It will be on showcase at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 happening later in February.
