Wiko Highway with 5.5-inch Full HD display and Octa-core SoC

Wiko Mobile is a well known brand in France and maybe Europe but outside of these locations, it not too known. The company is looking to break into the African market and has highlighted Kenya, Algeria, Morocco and Nigeria to sell their devices in before spreading across Africa in 2015.

The company has announced it is offering10 smartphones into the Nigerian market, one of them is the Wiko Highway.

Nigerians should know that the Wiko Highway is not a new smartphone in the market, it has been announced as early as February 2014 but specs wise the Wiko Highway is a modelled high end smartphone with pretty decent specs, packs a Full HD screen, an Octa-core Soc but disappointedly has no microSD card slot and runs on the dated Android Jelly bean OS.

Wiko Highway Specs Details and Features

The Wiko Highway is according to some sources said to be a reference design for the Alcatel One Touch Idol X+, you can’t help but see some resemblance in some aspects.

It packs a 5.0-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD display with Gorilla Glass 2 protection (441ppi), powered by a 2.0GHz Octa-core MediaTek MT6592 SoC with Mali 450 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The Wiko Highway also has 16GB of internal memory, 16MP rear main camera with LED flash, a 8MP front camera but no microSD card.

Connectivity options includes Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3.5mm Audio Jack, HSPA+, USB OTG, Dual-SIM functionality, GPS/A-GPS and accelerometer, proximity sensor and gyroscope are the sensor options.

The Wiko Highway runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean but the company says it is upgradeable to Android 4.4 Kitkat OS. The smartphone measures 144 x 70 x 7.7mm, weighs 154grams and a 2350mAh battery powers it. The battery provides up to 253hours on standby time; for the talktime up to 16.5hours on 2G and up to 11.5hours on 3G.

In the Box users get an AC adapter Headset, Micro USB Cable, SIM card adapters, User guide, Wiko mobile phone, Ultra slim cover.

Wiko Highway Pricing and Availability

The Wiko Highway is available in Black, White, Electric blue, Clementine, Purple colour options. There is no word on pricing in Nigeria but it sold for around €300 – €350 (around N63,000- N74,000 in Naira) in Europe.

Extra

The Wiko Highway is different from the Wiko Highway 4G smartphone, the latter sports a NVIDIA Tegra 4i SoC and 4G LTE capability. Asides that most of the specs remain the same.
