Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha 5G Concept Smartphone

Sometime last month, Xiaomi showcased its latest and second ever concept smartphone – the Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha at an event in China. It is fitted with a sleek looking 7.92-inch Super AMOLED display (2088 x 2250 pixels; 180.6% screen-to-body ratio) which wraps around the top and bottom titanium alloy metal and covers the whole screen all the way to back, leaving a ceramic vertical rear strip to house the cameras and flash.

The connectivity antennas are located in the top and bottom frame as well as the rear strip. The navigation buttons and status bar are located on the edges while there are virtual volume buttons instead of physical ones. It has a USB-C port to charge up the 4,050mAh battery at up to 40W.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha is the first smartphone to be equipped with a primary 108MP (f/1.69, OIS) main camera. The other two camera lenses are 12MP (f/2.0, 2x optical zoom) telephoto and 20MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide-angle. It supports HDR, can shoot 12032 x 9024 pixels photos and record 6K videos @30 fps, 4K video @60 fps, and 1080p slow-motion video @960 fps.

On the inside, it is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ mobile platform paired with 12GB LPDDR4X RAM and 512GB (UFS 3.0) built-in storage. The Mi MIX Alpha supports 5G connectivity, Bluetooth 5.0, and comes pre-loaded with MIUI 11 which is based on Android 10. Pricing starts at CNY 19,999 (above US$ 2,800).
