Intel and Rockchip announce the Rockchip XMM6321 SoC

Chinese Chip maker, Rockchip and Intel has announced the global availability of its first chipset collaboration, the Rockchip XMM6321 SoC. In the past few months, both companies announced they would be working on a processor aimed at entry level and low cost Android tablets, phones and phablets.

The Rockchip XMM6321 uses a dual-core ARM Cortex-A5 processor, uses the Intel/Infineon AG620 radio for 2G and 3G connectivity as well as Bluetooth 4.0 LE and 802.11b/g/n WiFi. A total number of 100,000 units has been said to have been ordered for a 7-inch display sized Android device in Dubai.

The Rockchip XMM6321 SoC is said to clock at 1GB and over clocks at 1.2GHz; supports a display resolution of 854 x 480 pixels or 1024 x 600 pixels. The chipset also supports Android 4.4 Kitkat OS, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, 8MP rear camera, 3MP front camera, OpenGL ES 2.0 and GPS/GLONASS.

The chipset is said to have been available across Asia since October but is now available globally including Northern American markets. Pricing details is expected to be subjected to mass quantities purchased and varies by amount.
