ASUS’ ROG Phone division has launched the next high-end smartphone in the series – the ASUS ROG Phone 3. Building on the features of its predecessor – ROG Phone II, the new model is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus mobile platform and offers LPDDR5 RAM (up to 16GB), UFS 3.1 storage (up to 512GB), sub-6 5G connectivity and Android 10 OS (ROG UI) just like the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel.
Backed by a 6,000mAh battery with 30W (10V/3A) HyperCharge fast charging, the ASUS ROG Phone 3 has a 6.59-inch FHD+ AMOLED 10-bit HDR display with 144Hz refresh rate, 270Hz touch sampling rate, and Corning Gorilla Glass 6 protection. The display is also HDR10 and HDR10+ certified and houses both the in-display fingerprint sensor and 24MP (f/2.0, 0.9μm) selfie camera.
Photography is handled by a primary 64MP (f/1.8, 0.8μm pixel size, PDAF, LED flash) SONY IMX686 camera paired with 13MP (f/2.4, 125° FOV) ultrawide-angle and 5MP (f/2.0) macro cameras. The main camera setup is capable of recording 8K UHD videos at 30fps, 4K UHD video at 30 or 60fps, 1080p FHD videos at 30 or 60fps and 720p HD videos at 30 fps. There is also slow-motion video recording at 120fps in 4K UHD and either 120 or 240fps in FHD.
The device is equipped with the GameCool 3 cooling system to distribute and dissipate heat from the processor and 5G modem, and there is a standalone AeroActive Cooler 3 clip-on accessory and integrated fan to further lower surface temperature. Performance can be pushed to the limit using the ASUS Armoury Crate app and there are different profile modes available to explore during gaming.
When in landscape mode, the edges of the device use the AirTrigger technology to act as shoulder buttons and more. Power is supplied by a 6,000mAh battery, which is charged by a 30W charger that supports Quick Charge 4.0 and ASUS has included its PowerMaster software to allow the management of all aspect of battery life and Hypercharge technology to ensure less heat while charging.
Other highlights include the bottom and side-mounted USB-C ports, dual front-facing speakers with Dirac HD Sound, 3.5mm headset jack and Dirac HD Sound Technology Software. There is a plethora of accessories for the ASUS ROG Phone 3 such as the ROG Kunai 3 Gamepad, ROG Gaming Clip, ROG Lighting Armor Case 3, ROG TwinView Dock 3, Professional Dock and Mobile Desktop Dock.
The ROG Phone 3 is available in two variants: the 12GB + 512GB option for EUR 999 and the 16GB + 512GB model for EUR 1,099. ASUS is also offering the ROG Phone 3 Strix Edition (8GB RAM + 256GB storage) – a cheaper model with similar power and performance for EUR 799. In India, Flipkart is selling the 8GB RAM + 128GB model for INR 49,999 and the 12GB RAM + 256GB model for INR 57,999.
