Alongside the Galaxy S7 and S7+ tablets and Galaxy Note 20 smartphone series, Samsung opened pre-orders for its next generation foldable smartphone – the Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G. The successor to the Galaxy Fold is expected to go official on September 1 in Mystic Black and Mystic Bronze colours. The company is also releasing few units of the limited Galaxy Z Fold 2 Thom Browne Edition in partnership with iconic New York fashion house, Thom Browne.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 5G is slightly larger than the Galaxy Fold with its 6.2-inch cover screen with 816 x 2260 pixels resolution and 7.6-inch main screen with 2213 x 1689 pixels resolution. Both have edge-to-edge, nearly bezel-less Infinity-O displays but the cover screen uses a Super AMOLED display panel while the main screen uses a Dynamic AMOLED 2X display panel.
Like all the devices announced, it will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ 5G mobile platform with the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System providing 5G connectivity and Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 mobile connectivity system to enhance both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi performance. It is expected to have the same triple camera setup as the Galaxy Note 20 and same 10MP selfie camera as the Galaxy Note 20 series.
