Apple Event Highlight: Apple Watch Series 6, Watch SE, new iPad Air, iPad 8th Gen

Apple has announced a series of new devices and services at its virtual Fall 2020 keynote. In terms of new devices, the Cupertino-based company unveiled the Apple Watch Series 6, Watch SE, iPad 8th gen and new iPad Air while the Apple One and Apple Fitness+ are the brand’s new subscription services.

Apple Watch Series 6

The 6th-generation of the Watch Series brings expanded health capabilities including a new Blood Oxygen sensor and app that detects and measures oxygen saturation (SpO2) level. It comes pre-loaded with watchOS 7 and includes features such as an always-on altimeter, handwashing detection, new workout types and new watch faces as well as new cases and bands. Apple is offering a new Blue and (PRODUCT) RED options to complement the existing Gold Aluminium, Space Gray and Silver colours.

Other improvements include the inclusion of an enhanced Always-On Retina display, new dual-core processor based on the A13 Bionic on iPhone 11, U1 chip and Ultra-Wideband antennas for short range wireless locations, and up to 18 hours of battery life. Pricing starts at US$ 399 for the Watch Series 6 (GPS) and US$ 499 for the Watch Series 6 (GPS + Cellular). Both models (GPS and GPS + Cellular) as well as the Apple Watch Nike, Apple Watch Hermès and new Watch bands will be available starting September 18 in more than 20 countries of the world.

Apple Watch SE

The Watch SE is the most affordable smartwatch from Apple yet. It follows the same design footprint and share features such as accelerometer, gyroscope, fall detection, Emergency SOS, and always-on altimeter with the Apple Watch Series 6. It comes pre-loaded with the watchOS 7 and features a dual-core processor, S5 SiP, Bluetooth 5.0, and stunning Retina display. Pricing starts at US$ 279 for the GPS only version and US$ 329 for the GPS + Cellular version starting September 18.

New Apple iPad and iPad Air

Apple has refreshed its tablet line-up with the new 8th-generation iPad and iPad Air.

  • Priced starting at US$ 329 (Wi-Fi) and US$ 429 (Wi-Fi + Cellular), the 8th-gen iPad has a large 10.2-inch Retina display, A12 Bionic chip with Neural Engine, Apple Pencil support thanks to iPadOS 14, Wi-Fi + LTE connectivity, Touch ID and all-day battery life.

Once the fitness+ is launched on the iPhone, iPad or Apple TV, the selected workout type is automatically started on the Apple Watch. At launch the service will be available for US$ 9.99 per month or US$79.99 per year in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK, and the US.

Apple One

Apple concluded its Fall 2020 virtual event with the launch of its new all-in-one subscription service – the Apple One. This service covers Apple products (Apple TV, iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, and Mac) and services including Apple Arcade, Apple Fitness+, Apple Music, Apple News+, Apple TV+, and iCloud. The company confirms the service will be available in 100 countries and regions.

  • For individual customers, the service is available for US$ 14.95 and includes Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, and 50GB of iCloud storage.
  • The family plan includes the same services as the individual option but offers up to 200GB of iCloud storage for US$ 19.95 per month. Up to six family members can share the same account.
  • The Premier plan combines – Apple Music, Apple TV+, Apple Arcade, Apple News+, Apple Fitness+, and 2TB of iCloud storage. It is priced starting at US$ 29.95 per month and up to six family members can also access the account.
