Royole FlexPai 2 with 3rd Gen Cicada Wing Display, Snapdragon 865 SoC

Roughly two year after announcing the FlexPai foldable smartphone in China, Rouyu Technology (Royole Technology) has announced the successor in form of the Royole FlexPai 2. The new edition comes with an improved display, better hinge system, faster response time (0.4ms) and Dual Mode 5G (NSA/SA) connectivity. In terms of price, it is set to go on sale in China for CNY 9,988 (US$ 1,471), about US$ 500 cheaper than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold.

The Royole FlexPai 2 is equipped with the company’s third generation Cicada Wing Full Flexible display which promises the display can withstand over 1.8 million bends. It has two displays – a front 5.5-inch (1440 x 900 pixels) display with 16:9 aspect ratio and rear 5.5-inch (1440 x 810 pixels) with 16:10 aspect ratio – which folds out into a large 7.8-inch (1920 x 1,440 pixels) display with 4:3 aspect ratio.

On the inside, it is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 mobile platform paired with either 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and either 256GB or 512GB (UFS 3.0) built-in storage space. Photography is handled by a quad camera system made up of a 64MP (f/1.89, 6P lens) main snapper paired with 32MP (f/2.0) portrait camera, 16MP (f/2.2, 1160 FOV) ultra-wide angle and 8MP (f/2.4, 3x zoom) telephoto cameras.

The rest of the specs include Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi 6, USB 3.1 Type-C and a 4,450mAh battery with Quick Charge 4.0 (18W fast charging). It comes preloaded with WaterOS 2.0 (based on Android 10 OS) and comes in Cosmic Gray, Midnight Black and Sunrise Gold colours.
