During the launch of the Galaxy Buds Pro and Galaxy S21 5G smartphones, Samsung announced its new tracking devices for personal items – the Galaxy SmartTag and Galaxy SmartTag+. Both trackers help users locate personal belongings such as keys, wallets, pet’s collar and more. While compatible Galaxy devices can locate one another using SmartThings Find, the new trackers leverage the same tech built into Galaxy devices to locate non-connected devices when the tag is attached.
The battery-powered Galaxy SmartTag is a Tile-like tracker which uses Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy (LE) to check the location of the tag and play a sound to be able to check for the location. On the other hand, the Galaxy SmartTag+ includes Ultra-Wideband (UWB) capabilities for detecting the precise and accurate position of the items. They are water resistant (IP53) and can also be used to as one-touch IoT control for Samsung appliances.
Samsung is including the Galaxy SmartTag as part of the Galaxy S21 pre-order bundle until January 28th. The tracker, which is available for US$ 30 (GBP 29), is compatible with only Galaxy devices (smartphones, tablets, and wearables). The more advanced Samsung Galaxy SmartTag+ will be available later in the year for $39.99 and only compatible with the Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy S21+ and S21 Ultra.
