Recap: Apple Unveil Macbook Pro with M1 Pro or M1 Max, AirPods 3, More

Apple’s October unleashed event has come and gone, however, the announcement from the event still has the tech world reeling. The Cupertino-based company announced the new redesigned MacBook Pro with its second-generation Apple Silicon for Mac – the M1 Pro and M1 Max. Other announcements include the AirPods 3 with Spatial Audio but no ANC, Apple Music Voice Plan and three colour options for the HomePod Mini (Blue, Orange and Yellow). The company’s first fall event birthed the iPhone 13/13 Pro series, Apple Watch Series 7 and two new iPads.

Apple M1 Pro and M1 Max

Apple’s two new Silicon for Mac – the M1 Pro and M1 Max, build on the outstanding performance of the Apple M1. The duo are manufactured using the 5nm process technology and deliver up to 70% faster CPU performance than the M1. The M1 Pro has a 10-core CPU with 16-core GPU while the M1 Max has the same configuration with up to 32-core GPU. They also have 16-core Neural Engine, Secure Enclave, ThunderBolt 4, and ProRes Encode and Decode.

MacBook Pro with M1 Pro or M1 Max

With the new MacBook Pro, Apple redesigned the product line for the first time in five years and re-introduced MagSafe port for fast charging and more port options. It is available in either 14″ or 16″ models with the same Mini-LEDs display with 120Hz ProMotion technology, up to 64GB RAM, macOS Monterey and USB-C power adapter. The 14-inch model lasts up to 17 hours of video playback while the 16-inch model lasts up to 21 hours of video playback.

Apple Music Voice Plan

Apple’s latest Apple Music Voice Plan is powered entirely by Siri. From US$ 4.99 (AU$ 5.99) per month, the plan offers access to the entire Apple Music global catalogue (up to 90 million songs, playlists, and stations) through Siri. It offers full playback control, customised Siri section and in-app experience.

AirPods 3

The third-gen AirPods is powered by the H1 chip and offers features such as Adaptive EQ, IPX4 rating, Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos, MagSafe charging and up to 30 hours of combined listening time (earbuds and case). Unlike the AirPods Pro, there is no Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), however, pricing is affordable – US$ 179/AU$ 279.
