Recap: Qualcomm Unveil Snapdragon 778G Plus 5G, 695 5G, 480 Plus 5G, and 680 4G Mobile Platforms

Qualcomm Technologies unveiled four new mobile platforms – the Snapdragon 778G Plus 5G, Snapdragon 695 5G, Snapdragon 480 Plus 5G, and Snapdragon 680 4G. All four are expected to arrive in high- to entry-tier devices from HMD Global, Honor, Motorola, OPPO, Vivo, Xiaomi and more by this quarter (Q4 2021).

“Mid-range smartphones are expected to be the main driver for accelerating 5G device adoption – especially in emerging regions. These four new additions to our roadmap create significant opportunity for our OEM customers and provides additional options to continue to meet the growing demand for our 5G and 4G mobile platforms,” said Deepu John, senior director, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G Plus 5G

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G Plus 5G sits atop the bunch with minor upgrades over the Snapdragon 778G. The mobile platform is built using the same 6nm process technology as the 778G, however, the eight Kyro cores are now clocked up to 2.5GHz and feature the Adreno 642L GPU. It is equipped with Snapdragon 5G X53 Modem-RF System, which supports both mmWave and Sub-6 GHz, as well as Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and Quick Charge 4+ technology.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 is a new addition to the 6xx series offering truly global 5G (mmWave and sub-6 GHz). It is manufactured using the 6nm process and feature an octa-core CPU with Kryo 660 CPU cores (clocked up to 2.2GHz) as well as Adreno 619 GPU. In terms of CPU performance, it is 15% faster than the Snapdragon 690 while the graphics rendering is 30% faster.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 Plus 5G

Built using the 8nm process technology, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 Plus 5G offers minor improvements over the Snapdragon 480. It is equipped with the same Snapdragon X51 5G Modem-RF System as the Snapdragon 695 5G, offering both sub-6 GHz and mmWave frequencies. The clock speed of the Kryo 460 CPU cores has been upped to 2.2GHz alongside Adreno 619 GPU.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 4G

Finally, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 4G is limited to 4G connectivity, however, it offers major improvement over the Snapdragon 678 and Snapdragon 675. It is manufactured using the more powerful 6nm process and feature the new Kryo 265 CPU cores (up to 2.4GHz), Adreno 610 GPU and supports Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging technology.
