Vivo X5 Max phablet, usurps the Oppo R5 as the slimmest smartphone yet

Finally, after all the teaser and various leaks, the Vivo X5 Max phablet has finally been announced. There has been earlier claims that the device would launch on December 10, but that could have still been impossible due to various time zones.

Starting from the design, the Vivo X5 Max comes with a magnesium alloy and stainless steel chassis with stainless steel back with anti-fingerprint coating. It dethrone the Oppo R5 (4.85mm) as the slimmest smartphone available with its 4.75mm slim profile.

Specs wise, the Vivo X5 Max sports a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 pixels Super AMOLED display, powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor (64-bit) with Adreno 405 GPU, 2 GB of RAM memory, 16 GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot for expansion (up to 128 GB).

On the back rest a 13MP rear camera with LED flash, a f/2.0 aperture and a 5MP front-facing camera (f/2.4 aperture). Other features includes it’s Dual-SIM functionality which uses both the microSIM and NanoSIM; the NanoSIM port can also be used for housing a microSD card slot. Connectivity options includes – 802.11 Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and 4G LTE connectivity.

The Vivo X5 Max runs on Android 4.4 KitKat with the Funtouch OS 2.0 custom UI on-top; with YSS-205X sound processing chip, OPA1612 audio output, -FI 2.0 technology and an unspecified non-removable battery powered the device.

For those in the market for a phablet, the Vivo X5 Max would certainly appeal to all; it is available for pre-order starting December 22 for a $485. The device is expected to be available in other markets starting from India which would get it on December 15 followed by other markets unannounced yet. Finally, it is only available in one Colour variant and that is the Aurora White option.
