Tizen OS based Samsung Z1 set for January Launch date; costs below $100

The Tizen OS has been synonymous with postponed releases date and it has suffered the same fate again. The first official device to run the Samsung in-house developed OS – the Samsung Z1 expected to be announced this month.

The Samsung Z1 (SM-Z130H) is expected to be announced on January 18th, 2015 in India according to a report from The Korea Economic Daily. The device is also expected to debut in China (February 2015) and in South Korea before the middle of 2015.

The report further states the handset would not cost more than 100,000 Korean Won (around $90) and it would be go on sale immediately through Samsung existing sales network plus it would be available online too.

The Samsung Z1 could be seen as the company’s solution to gained back its lost market share to emerging markets where the likes of Xiaomi and it’s cheaper devices has taken over.

There is no official picture of the Z1 Tizen OS smartphone but it is expected to feature a 4-inch 480 x 800 pixels resolution display, a dual-core Spreatrum processor clocked at 1.2GHz with 512MB of RAM. It would have Dual-SIM capability, support 3G, Wi-Fi & Bluetooth connectivity option whilst also having a rear 3.2MP camera and a front VGA camera.

Update: So we finally got an image showing the upcoming Samsung Z1 and two images of the Tizen OS showing the phonebook and homescreen.
