Snapdragon 810 powered Windows 10 smartphones and Phablet devices expected in 2015

Even though the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 has been in the news for some not so good reason due to claims that the chipset over heats; there is no denying that it is a powerhouse. The Snapdragon 810 has only been confirmed to debut in the LG G Flex 2 and the Xiaomi Note Pro but it is looking likely that more and more device would embrace the chipset before the end of the year.

Qualcomm announced its FY Q1 2015 earning recently and in the process fed the rumour mills by saying it has lowered its outlook for 2015 as the Snapdragon 810 chip would not be used by in large consumer flagship this year. Lo and behold, Samsung would not be using the chispet on the upcoming Galaxy S6 nor the Galaxy S Edge.

Microsoft however has thrown their weight behind Qualcomm; this simply means we would see the Snapdragon 810 chipset power upcoming Windows Phone devices which would definitely be running the unified Windows 10 platform.

The General manager for portfolio and product management at Microsoft, Juha Kokkonen said:

Microsoft and Qualcomm’s long standing collaboration has allowed the two companies to offer compelling business, imaging, and entertainment experiences with Lumia smartphones running on Windows Phone. We look forward to continuing this relationship to deliver best in class Lumia smartphones, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 processors, and offer an unprecedented combination of processing power, rich multimedia, high-performance graphics and wireless connectivity for our customers.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC is an octa-core 64-bit processor (four cortex A57 and four cortex A53), Adreno 430 GPU, 4K Ultra HD interface and video, support for high-speed LPDDR4 memory, built-in Qualcomm VIVE 2-stream 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, USB 3.0, FC Qualcomm IZAT location core and LTE Cat. 9 (up to 450Mbps).

The Windows 10 on the other hand is a unified platform which would run across all Microsoft devices including its tablets and the Xbox One.

The countdown to the MWC 2015 has started and we would definitely see more devices launched at the event; hopefully we get to see exciting devices from Microsoft as well as devices with the S810 under its hood ticking.
