The Gionee Elife S5.5 (5.5mm) used to be the slimmest from the company before the Gionee Elife S5.1 (5.15mm) took the crown as the slimmest smartphone in the world. After then we have seen the crown passed on from Oppo R5 (4.85mm) to Vivo X5 Max (4.8mm) and the recently released Coolpad Ivvi K1 Mini (4.7mm) holds the crown.

Commenting on the upcoming device,  Oliver Sha, head of global marketing of Gionee said;

“The race to make the slimmest smartphone was getting out of hand. Going so slim is actually not benefiting user experience without the performance to back it up.

To make a smartphone slimmer, some manufacturers made sacrifices such as eliminating the headphone jack, a protruding rear camera, shortening of the battery life, and a thin frame that brings about heating issues and a bad signal. But is it worth the compromise?”

The Super-Slim device according to Gionee would not compromise on performance and would focus on delivering quality user experience whether it is in terms of design, usability or technology. What Gionee is saying is – they are capable of packing a super slim device with large battery capacity, powerful camera & hardware and not forgetting the antennas.
