Vaio announces two hybrid laptops – Vaio Z and Vaio Z Canvas

Vaio is a brand which was synonymous with Sony but was sold off to Japanese Investment fund last year; Sony still maintains a minority interest in the Company and the laptops are still sold in Some Sony online stores at least in Japan.

Vaio has announced two new hybrid laptops in the Company’s Z series – the Vaio Z and the Vaio Z canvas; both running Windows 8.1 OS.

The Vaio Z features a 13-inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels resolution display. It features an Intel Core i7-5557U (3.1GHz) processor with Intel’s Iris Graphics 6100 GPU and comes with 8GB/16GB RAM and 256/512GB SSD options. Connectivity options on the device includes – HDMI, USB 3.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac/b/g/n and SD/SDHC/SDXC card reader. There is a 8MP main camera onboard and support for active stylus.

The Z measures 324.2×215.3×15.0 to 16.8mm in dimensions, weighs 1.34kg and is backed by a battery which enough juice to power the device for 15 hours. The hybrid laptop can be used in a normal laptop mode, in multiflip mode (tablet/slate mode) and another mode which let’s the screen faces away from the laptop. It is available for pre-order today at a starting price of $1600.

The Vaio Z Canvas on the other hand has similar specs with the Vaio Z; except it has a 12.1-inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 1704 pixels. It also has a detachable keyboard, digitizer stylus and up to 1TB of storage. The laptop is expected to arrive around May this year starting at $1800.
